A planned production shoot in Italy for Tom Cruise‘s new “Mission: Impossible” film has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak, movie studio Paramount Pictures said on February 24.

The seventh installment of the franchise was scheduled to shoot in Venice, which is its first location, for three weeks.

A spokesman for Paramount Pictures in a statement said;

Out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of our cast and crew, and efforts of the local Venetian government to halt public gatherings in response to the threat of coronavirus, we are altering the production plan for our three week shoot in Venice, the scheduled first leg of an extensive production for Mission: Impossible 7.

The studio noted that it was allowing the film crew to return home during the delay and that it would “continue to monitor this situation” in Italy.

No information has however been given by the studio about when it will resume production.

The 7th installment of the “Mission: Impossible” action movie franchise is expected to be released in July 23 2021, with its eighth franchise set for 2022.

Other activities like Milan Fashion Week, the Venice Carnival and Serie A football matches were also canceled due to the rise in spread of coronavirus in Italy.

So far, Europe’s biggest outbreak is in Italy, where 7 people have died and more than 280 infected.
