Jay-Z and Beyonce, his wife, have called for the prosecution of all the police officers involved in the death of George Floyd, a black American who died after an officer knelt on his neck.
The 50-year-old rapper took to Roc Nation’s official twitter account on Monday to issue a statement, shortly after he had spoken with Tim Walz, governor of Minnesota.
In the statement, the media mogul appreciated Walz for bringing in an attorney to take over Floyd case.
He also urged politicians to do the right thing and prosecute all those responsible for the murder of George Floyd “to the fullest extent of the law.”
“After our very earnest conversation, thank you to Governor Walz for doing what’s right and calling in Attorney General Keith Ellison to take over the George Floyd case,” the statement read.
‘Earlier (on Sunday), Governor Walz mentioned having a human conversation with me — a dad and a black man in pain. Yes, I am human, a father and a black man in pain and I am not the only one.
“Now I, along with an entire country in pain, call upon Attorney General Keith Ellison to do the right thing and prosecute all those responsible for the murder of George Floyd to the fullest extent of the law.
“This is just the first step. I am more determined to fight for justice than any fight my would-be oppressors may have.
“I prevail on every politician, prosecutor, and officer in the country to have the courage to do what is right, look at us as humans, dads, brothers, sisters, and mothers in pain and look at yourselves.”
On Friday, Beyonce had taken to her Instagram page to call for more charges against the three other police officers who forcibly restrained Floyd during his arrest.
““We need justice for George Floyd. We all witnessed his killing in broad daylight We’re broken and we’re disgusted, we cannot normalize this pain. I’m not only speaking to people of color,” the songstress said.
“If you’re white, black, brown and anything in between, I’m sure you feel hopeless by the racism going on in America right now.
“No more senseless killings of human beings. No more seeing people of colour as less than human beings. We can no longer look away. George is all of our families and humanity. He’s our family.
“Because he’s American. There have been too many times that we’ve seen these violent killings and no consequences. Yes, someone has been charged but justice is far from being achieved.”
“If you want to demand more charges brought on all those involved in the death of George Floyd, click the link in my bio to sign the petition,” reads the caption of post.
Over the past few days, 25 cities across the US have been under curfew after citizens took the streets to protest Floyd’s death.
