DJ Cuppy signs deal with Apple’s Platoon for EP release

Popular Nigerian disk jockey, Florence Otedola, better known by her stage name as DJ Cuppy, has signed a deal with Platoon, a UK-based music company, for the release of ‘Original Copy’, her debut EP.

The music company updated the deal via its twitter handle while the 27-year-old Nigerian DJ announced in posts via her social media handles.

In one of the video clips, Cuppy could be seen having a virtual meeting with the senior executives of the company who discussed her duties and officially welcomed her on board.

Cuppy described the development as a dream come true, saying it signals a new chapter in her music career.

“A new chapter with sweet music. Cuppy is now a @WeArePlatoon artist!” she wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.

Platoon Music, which was acquired by Apple in 2018, works with artistes to produce, distribute and sell their work, using analytics to figure out the target market for the content

The new deal comes two months after Apple Music, a US music and video streaming service, announced her as host of its first-ever radio show in Africa.

Cuppy’s achievement further stretches what has been an amazing run for the country’s entertainment industry which has seen several artistes including Davido, Wizkid and Burna Boy hit new heights at the global music scene.
