Donald Trump breaks Silence & Hints at 2024 Presidential Run

Donald Trump has broken his silence since the inauguration of Joe Biden.

The 74-year-old has reportedly hinted he may stand as the US president in 2024 as he started his new life as a resident in Florida and golf club regular.

Trump has been in virtual seclusion since flying to Mar a Lago in West Palm Beach in the final hours of his presidency on Wednesday as Joe Biden was sworn in.

Trump told the Washington Examiner: “We’ll do something, but not just yet.”

He dropped the hint at a brief conversation at his regular table at the private Trump International Golf Club restaurant before an aide cut short the chat.

The news comes as the Democrats pushed ahead with their impeachment bid on charges of inciting insurrection after his supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, an incident which left five people dead.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she will transmit an impeachment article to the Senate on Monday.

Last week Trump became the first president in US history to be impeached twice.

The trial in the US Senate will begin on February 8, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on the Senate floor.

On Thursday Republicans in the Senate asked Democrats to put off the start of Trump’s impeachment trial until mid-February.

The request was made to give him time to prepare a defence.

Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said: “This impeachment began with an unprecedentedly fast and minimal process over in the House.

“The sequel cannot be an insufficient Senate process that denies former President Trump his due process or damages the Senate or the presidency itself.”

The trial could distract from President Joe Biden’s efforts to push an ambitious legislative agenda through Congress, including nearly $2 trillion worth of COVID-19 relief.

If Trump is found guilty he will be banned for standing as president again.
