WhatsApp, the messaging platform owned by Meta has gone down for users across Nigeria and around the world.
Users of the platform began reporting issues shortly before 8am WAT on Tuesday.
More than 12,000 reports were posted within half an hour, according to the service status website Down Detector.
Many people have complained on social media, especially on Twitter in Nigeria that they can not send or receive messages. As at the time of filing this report, users of the platform cannot read or send messages
The messenger platform has about two billion global active users.
It is one of the most popular messaging platforms in Nigeria.
WhatsApp Messenger, or simply WhatsApp, is an internationally available freeware, cross-platform centralized instant messaging and voice-over-IP service owned by American company Meta Platforms.
