The innovative leadership of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has earned the state the fourth position in the recent evaluation in BudgIT’s State of States 2024 Report in overall fiscal performance and sustainability.
With the theme of the report, “Moving Primary Health Care Delivery from Sub-Optimality to Optimality,” BudgIT’s ranking reflects Anambra State’s exceptional performance in both fiscal and healthcare metrics.
This comes at a time when many States are struggling with fiscal sustainability and healthcare delivery challenges, and the feat attests to Governor Soludo’s thriving model of fiscal responsibility, credible leadership, healthcare, and economic management prowess.
The ranking represents a fundamental shift in how state governments can approach financial independence and social service delivery, and Anambra State’s fourth-place ranking on Index A proves its less dependence on federal allocations, a critical indicator of true fiscal autonomy.
Governor Soludo’s success story stems from his holistic approach to Anambra State’s management, having effectively balanced the challenges of revenue generation, resource allocation, and healthcare optimisation, proving that fiscal discipline needs not come at the expense of social services.
It is also hinged on the state’s strategy of innovative reforms, effective internal revenue generation, and optimal resource allocation, coupled with Governor Soludo’s sustainable model of growing internally generated revenue (IGR) while maintaining disciplined operating expenses.
Consequently, the Anambra First Citizen has demonstrated that with the right policies and implementation strategies, states can break free from the cycle of federal dependency. Governor Soludo’s approach to creating an enabling business environment has not only attracted investments but strengthened the state’s domestic resource mobilisation capacity, with Anambra living up to its slogan as “the Light of the Nation.”
Other States rated in the top 4 include Rivers, Lagos and Ogun.
