Operation Udo Ga-Achi (Meaning Peace Shall Reign) security system launched in January by Governor Charles Soludo is seriously gaining traction and yielding results. Like thunder, it is now striking criminals and making life unbearable for men and women that have for long been giving Anambra State sleepless night.
The security operation, which stems from the governor’s signing of the Anambra state Homeland Security Law, unveiled 200 security vehicles and gadgets. Agunechemba was established as a state security outfit designed to support existing law enforcement agencies in preventing crime.
According to Christian Aburime, CPS to Governor Soludo, Homeland Security defined the roles and responsibilities for security supervisory committees at various levels to oversee operations and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, and strict regulations against kidnapping, banditry, and illicit drug trade.
This includes unlawfully using properties for criminal activities, clear mandates on landlords, property owners, and hospitality businesses to ensure due diligence in tenant and guest identification, offenses, and penalties to deter crime and enhance enforcement mechanisms, among other things.
Governor Soludo’s administration, which understands the pivotal role of traditional and civil institutions in fighting crimes and restoring sanity in society, urges their cooperation to achieve its goals.
In pursuit of the fight against crime, many kidnappers have been arrested and hideouts demolished, with successful raids for criminals at Ozubulu, Isiagu, Oba, and Nnewi, among other places in Anambra. Also, criminals involved in the death of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha North State Constituency I, have been apprehended.
The eight Local Government Areas, namely Aguata, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Orumba North, Orumba South, and Ogbaru, which were under siege before the advent of Governor Soludo’s government, have also been freed by the security network.
With each step taken, and each partnership formed, Operation Udo Ga-Achi stands as a testament to resilience, solidarity, and the undying human spirit for peace in Anambra.
