Insurgency: Soldier Fighting Boko Haram Commits Suicide, Leaves Letter for Wife (Graphic Photos)

A soldier fighting Boko Haram insurgents in the north-eastern part of Nigeria has reportedly committed suicide, leaving a letter for his wife.

Sources said the soldier, a lance corporal attached to the army’s 27 task force brigade in Buni Gari, Gujba local government area of Yobe state, committed killed himself on Thursday with a shotgun at his duty post.

The reason for taking his life is yet unknown, but sources reveal that the soldier suddenly took his gun while on duty at his post, aimed at his head and pulled the trigger.

“He shot himself in the head, and he died immediately, before other soldiers could even rush to help,” a military source said.

His body has been evacuated and sources said investigation into what led to the incident is in progress.

Sagir Musa, army spokesperson, was not immediately available to comment over the matter.

A thorough investigation is in the offing. Recall that in July, a soldier in the army’s 202 battalion in Bama, Borno state, killed a lieutenant who did not give him pass to visit his family. A soldier hanged himself in Abuja in 2019 while another committed suicide after killing his superior in 2017.
